Frequently Asked Questions

A: Brick cladding is a term that describes a lightweight brick rain screen façade that covers another type of material - often to improve the appearance of the area, minimise maintenance and upkeep, or provide increased durability. The smart and natural look of brick cladding is primarily used to create impressive brick aesthetics in the design of mid to high-rise buildings, new constructions, and recladding projects.
A: CORIUM brick cladding is made of thin brick tiles (approximately 32mm thick) that have been specifically manufactured to mechanically fix onto the unique design of our steel backing sections. Real clay brick is used to manufacture CORIUM brick cladding to ensure you receive the highest quality finish and maximum strength and durability. A: One of the main benefits of brick cladding is its ability to provide strength to a building and reinforce overall safety. Brick cladding is renowned for its resistance to weather, mould and pollutants, as well as for its capability to prevent cracking, warping, and twisting under the extreme temperatures of the Australian climate. Offering increased protection and safety is one of the fundamental purposes of adding brick cladding to a residential or commercial space.
A: Although not completely waterproof, CORIUM brick cladding offers a degree of water resistance. Our brick cladding is made from real clay brick, which resists rainwater (including heavy wind-driven rain) and helps to minimise mould growth, wood rot, insect infestations, and corrosion of our unique fastening systems.
A: CORIUM brick cladding is a non-combustible, fire-safe building material perfect for exterior and interior use. Brick, in general, does not burn, and few other materials will provide the same, high level of protection against fire that brick cladding and traditional bricks do. As well as being fire-resistant, brick cladding is also resistant to snow, rain, UV damage, and heavy winds.
A: While this largely depends on the architectural aesthetic and location of your commercial space, brick cladding is known for offering a number of desirable benefits over cladding alone. These include: Brick wall cladding is more robust and resistant to fire, it is low maintenance and easy to clean, it is quick and simple to install which reduces construction costs and speeds up the build process, plus brick wall cladding is suitable for use across a wide range of substructures with its versatility and flexibility providing limitless possibilities for design.
A: If desired, brick cladding can be painted. However, when the brick cladding is made from genuine brick, you’ll need to ensure the surface is correctly prepared before painting. Real brick is a porous material, and because of this, coating bricks with paint can prevent the brick from correctly absorbing and expelling moisture by trapping the moisture inside. When this happens, paint is likely to peel and chip away. To minimise the risk of this happening, the surface will need to be thoroughly cleaned and correctly primed with a primer designed for masonry.
A: At CORIUM, our innovative and versatile brick system is made of brick tiles specifically manufactured to fix onto a galvanised steel backing. The horizontal rows are then mounted onto a vertical support system and clipped in place. This mechanical clipping feature is unique to CORIUM and ensures a high-strength brick facade with the ability to be angled and adjusted as needed to ensure a truly dynamic finish.
A: The cost of brick cladding largely depends on your unique needs (for instance, the amount of brick cladding needed and the style and size desired). Contact us today if you’d like an estimate for applying brick cladding in your commercial space.
